Letter: City delays Biltmore, payroll solutions

The Coral Gables Citizens Political Action Committee is concerned about the marathon discussions the City is having with the operators of the Biltmore Hotel, the failure of the hotel to pay rent, the refusal of the hotel operators to provide financial information when they are seeking rent concessions and resulting loss of revenue.

City Attorney Elizabeth and City Manager Patrick Salerno must be held accountable for this delay and loss of revenue.

The greatest concerns are frustration with failure of the commission and the city manager to adequately address the over inflated personnel cost, the number of over compensated employees and most of all, a destructive pension system.

We see no direction on something that is obviously dragging the City down.  We call upon the City Commission and the Manager to announce clear goals and principles with respect to reduction of personnel costs and reform of the pension system.  We should not have to wait until the budget process begins in September. We must address this now.

Vincent E. Damian, Jr.
President
Coral Gables Political Action Committee
